Romania: Eurowind Energy installs largest wind turbines at Pecineaga wind farm

Danish renewables developer Eurowind Energy has completed the installation of eight Siemens Gamesa SG 6.6-170 wind turbines at the Pecineaga wind farm in Constanța County, marking the deployment of the largest wind turbines ever used in Romania.

Each turbine features a 170-meter rotor and a nominal capacity of 6.6 MW, ensuring efficient electricity production even in areas with lower wind speeds. Once fully operational, the wind farm is expected to generate approximately 176,000 MWh of renewable electricity per year, enough to meet the demand of up to 48,000 households.

In April 2023, Eurowind Energy secured a €65.33 million credit facility for the construction of the Pecineaga wind farm, which has a total installed capacity of 48 MW. Banca Comercială Română (BCR) and Erste Group Bank are jointly financing the investment loan, each contributing €32.66 million. The credit facility, covering 70% of the total development costs, matures by the end of 2040. Additionally, the two banks are providing Eurowind Energy with an €18 million package, including a VAT facility and other financial products to support the project.

Eurowind Energy develops and operates wind, solar, and hybrid energy projects across 15 European countries and the United States. Active in Romania since 2011, the company has built a project portfolio of 7,800 MW within the country.
